Crucial weekend in GT3 title fight

The championship fight is finely poised in the marquee GT3 class, with just five crews separated by 18 points ahead of the two-hour race around the Kent circuit’s famed longer layout. Charles Dawson and Kiern Jewiss lead the way in the first of 2Seas Motorsport’s Mercedes-AMGs, having bagged a maximum score on three occasions already this year.

Their nearest rival is the sister car of Maximilian Götz and Kevin Tse, the only other entry on the grid to have won more than once this year. Third is the Blackthorn Aston Martin of Giacomo Petrobelli and British GT legend Jonny Adam and there is a tie for fourth with the Optimum Motorsport McLaren of Marvin Kirchhöfer and Morgan Tillbrook level with Alex Martin. Unlike the others, Martin sits solo having co-driven with both Sandy Mitchell and Patrick Kujala throughout the campaign.

With 37.5 points on offer at Brands Hatch and just one more race to run after that, this event looks like it will be key in determining the outcome of the championship.

History on the cards in GT4

In the GT4 class, there is a larger gap but it’s worth watching for a very different reason. Jack Brown and Marc Warren lead the way in one of Optimum Motorsport’s McLaren Artura GT4s, and for the former this represents an opportunity to defend the crown. Should Brown win the title, he would not only become a back-to-back title winner, but also the first ever two-time British GT4 Champion.

The only other crew in contention for the outright GT4 title is the pairing of Ravi Ramyead and Charlie Robertson in their Century Motorsport prepared BMW.

GB3 and GB4 bring the single-seater show

Fans at Brands Hatch during the British GT weekend can also witness the best that UK single-seater racing has to offer with the GB3 Championship partnered by the BRDC and its sister series GB4 both in action.

In the GB3 Championship, its Alex Ninovic who leads the standings from his Australian compatriots Patrick Heuzenroeder and Gianmarco Pradel. Keanu Al Azhari is fourth ahead of the leading Brit, William Macintyre, with nine races still to run this year including three at Brands Hatch.

GB4 will feature a triple-header too, and there’s no telling who’ll emerge on top following a season which has seen nine different drivers win races. Daniel Guinchard leads the points ahead of the trip to the South East.

The meeting will also feature a full complement of Ginetta-run one-make championships.
